News & Events IILM BS, Mumbai organizes Walkathon for AIDS Awareness
On the occasion of WORLD AIDS DAY, the
Mumbai campus of International Institute for Learning in Management Business
School (IILM BS) organized a walkathon on December 1, 2007 to create awareness
and educate the citizens on the threat of AIDS. This event was organized
jointly with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) .
As a pre-event preparation to the final day, promotional activities were held at Center One Mall for one full week. Announcements on Radio City 91.1 FM helped reach out to people across Mumbai many of whom came forward to be part of the march. The walkathon commenced from CBD Belapur Bus depot, Navi Mumbai at 8.30 a.m. It covered a distance of 6 kms through sectors 4, 6, 1, Police Commissioner's Office and Konkan Bhavan, NMMC, Sarovar Vihar. The rally was flagged off by Mr Maggu & Lt. Col. D P Singh, President and General Secretary respectively of Association of Senior Citizens. It was graced by Dr D R Paropkari, Medical Officer of Health NMMC. Amongst the participants were college students of Bharatiya Vidhyapeeth, A C Patil College of Engineering, Bio Engineering Research Centre, School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Maharashtra Education Foundation and IBS. Extremely overwhelming was the spirit of the senior citizens. According to Mrs P Singh, one of the senior citizens, this was an opportunity for them to give back to society. Placards & banners made the entire path colorful. Slogans to fight AIDS rented the air. According to Mr Sanjay Shelke the event opened the eyes of many in doing away with the myths associated with the disease. The entire route was accompanied by a motorcade of NMMC and Police as a mark of support to the cause. A break at The Park Hotel was well convened where the participants were addressed on the issues related to HIV / AIDS by Medical Health Officers of NMMC, Dr P Katke & Dr B Babar. A quiz was also organized. Prizes were distributed to the quiz winners and a special prize was given for the best placard by Mr. Swarup Dutta, General Manager, The Park Hotel. Pamphlets with messages were circulated to the residents, shop owners, cobblers, vegetable vendors, rickshaw/taxi drivers- one and all along the route. It caught the attention of office goers, home makers, and professionals. Many of them spontaneously joined the rally. Like many others, Ms. Asawari Chorge, a first timer to such an event, was awed by the sheer zeal of the crowd. An overjoyed Ms. Poonam Shah, one of the organizers exclaimed that such events should be held more often to bring together institutes of all types for a common cause creating a spirit of oneness. The three hour walkathon ended at the campus of IILM BS, Mumbai. The event organized by IILM Business School was well appreciated by
participants and onlookers for its meticulous management. According
to Ms. Binky R Bahumik, Head - Corporate Relations for IILM BS, this
was in tune with the philanthropic belief of the institute and an effort
towards corporate social commitment. |
